It has been a fun but long week for all of the Super Nova Learners and Teachers. Hope everyone gets some well deserved rest and enjoy the beautiful weather we are having.
Today learners had a variety of seminar activities.
The Ghost of Black Hawk Island is still a captivating story for our learners and they can totally relate to the story now that they have experienced Upham Woods.
Learners created their math goals and did some work on number systems.
In science the learners continued exploring the Scientific Method.
Current events were discussed.
Last but not least the learners worked on PLP's and any other work they needed to complete.
We had a wonderful a trip to Upham Woods with all of our learners. A special thank you to our parent volunteers you made it a great trip!

Science: Scientific Thinking activities
LA: An Achieve 3000 Article. "Few People are visiting National Forests. "
Social Studies: Upham Woods wrap up.
Satellite: Schedule set up. Moby Max , PLP work time, worked on other assignments, and read.

Today was a busy day.
-Learners began the day learning either Prezi, Glogster or Pow Toon.
-We read in the book Ghost of Black Hawk Island.
-Science lab activity learning about living organisms they will discover at Upham Woods pond life.
-Learners created Habits of Learning rubrics today.
We ended the day with a review of Upham Woods and previewed the schedule for them for Monday or Wednesday.
Learners previewed a video on Upham Woods and answered their questions. Supply lists were offerred again to all learners. Prepare for the weather and bring lunch.

It was another busy day in sixth grade.
Students should be gathering up their Upham Woods supplies. A-L last names go on Monday 9/15. Then on Tuesday the students with the last names M-Z go. Students were given a supply list on Monday. They will need a sack lunch for the first day that they are at Upham Woods. Its going to be a great adventure for all of us. We can't wait to go to the woods!
Activities today included:
Reading and discussing Ghost of Black Hawk Island.
Science : Exploring and watching science movies.
Sensitivity and respect seminar. Teaching how to learn and work with people of various interests and abilities.
9/11 It was a great seminar where students created a graffitti board and shared information they knew about 9/11. They voted if items in the graffitti board were accurate or not. Then they watched a small clip of 9/11. Our final activity was to think of ways that all of us can make this world a better place for everyone. Homework was to do something kind for another person.
Workshop: Students worked on completing tasks from earlier this week.
6th grade is busy....busy.....busy. The students are wonderful and we are enjoying working with them!
Achieve3000 is an online tool that provides informational texts (nonfiction) at each student's reading level. In all classes, including Encore, students will read articles, respond to questions, and improve reading skills. Today we took the first step in using the program by completing the LevelSet. This is a 25-30 question reading assessment that helps match students to articles at the right reading level. Next week, students will read their first article.
Today was picture day at Savanna Oaks. Visit the Savanna Oaks website for instructions on how to order pictures online if you did not get a chance to order them. You can find the information under ANNOUNCEMENTS on the right hand side of the page.
Students learned about MobyMax, a tool for practicing and improving math skills. They explored tools for creating the first projects in their Personalized Learning Plans. They studied a current event about 9/11 and completed a science lab.
Wednesday and Thursday morning will be dedicated to MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing. Students will take the reading test on Wednesday and the math test on Thursday.
For late start Monday, we had a Satellite day. That means that students were in their Satellite classroom for all core classes. They did go to their Encore classes. During the Satellite day we...
Speaking of Upham Woods, students need to bring a lunch for the first day. If your student would like to order a lunch from school, the form needs to be turned in by Wednesday.
